A history specialist, William Dalrymple started life in a farmhouse on the outskirts of New Delhi with his significant other, their three children, four goats, a cockatoo.
It is the sort of clearing and extraordinary portrayal 45-year-old Dalrymple would be delighted by. In the course of the last two decades he has written a number of books including a top rated travel book (City of Djinns: A Year in Delhi) and Nine Lives: In Search of the Sacred in Modern India.
He is a co-founder and co-director of the extremely prestigious and regularly extending DSC Jaipur Literature celebration. He is at present writing on the historical backdrop of the principal Afghan war.
