Sudha Chandran is an Indian film and television actress and an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer.
Life has been a rollercoaster for Sudha, in 1981, aged just 17, she lost her right leg following a road accident. Chandran says that this period was the toughest time of her life. She met Dr PK Sethi in Jaipur and got a rubber based prosthetic leg called ‘Jaipur foot’. Two years later she was back on stage and dancing.
In addition to her dancing Sudha has starred in more than 30 films in different languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. She started her career with a Telugu film ‘Mayuri’, which was based on her own life. The film won 14 Nandi Awards, the highest for any Telugu film. The film was later dubbed into Tamil and Malayalam. It went on to be remade in Hindi as ‘Naache Mayuri’ in 1986. Sudha again played herself. She was awarded the 1986 Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards for her performance in ‘Mayuri’.
Sudha Chandran is also one of the judges on a popular reality show, Super Dancer Junior Series on Amrita TV and was a judge on the reality dance show, Maanada Mayilada.
Sudha has a BA from Mithibai College, Mumbai and an MA in Economics.
