Biography

Pramod Bhasin is viewed by many as the author and pioneer of the Business Process Management Industry in India today, an industry which now employs over a million people in India, directly and indirectly.

In 1997 Bhasin founded Genpact, formerly GE Capital International Services. He was the President and CEO until June 2011.

In the mid 1990’s very few people had heard of business process outsourcing, Bhasin started with a call centre of just 20 people and a satellite link to ensure 24-hour communications. He knew he was on to something 800 people responded to an advertisement to work in the call centre.

Under his leadership Genpact has expanded its BPO operations to include China, Eastern Europe and Latin America, as well as India. Genpact is recognised today as the pioneer in its industry with more than 55,000 employees across 17 countries and nearly US$2bn revenues.

Prior to Genpact, Pramod Bhasin was an officer at General Electric (GE). His career with GE spanned 25 years across the US, Europe and Asia. He became Head of GE Capital in India and Asia, having earlier worked with GE Capital’s Corporate Finance Group in Stanford, USA. Bhasin moved to India from the US in 1994 to set up GE Capital from scratch. During this tenure, he started joint ventures with HDFC in consumer finance, SBI for credit cards and Maruti for auto finance.

Pramod Bhasin serves on the boards of NDTV, Bank of India and SRF Ltd and on the governing boards of several educational institutions including IIM Lucknow, Lady Shri Ram College and Shri Ram School. Bhasin also served as Chairman of India’s National Association of Software & Services Companies (NASSCOM).

Bhasin is currently working to build ‘The Skills Academy’, a pioneering institute to enhance employability. He is also focused on promoting entrepreneurship and inclusion through a variety of initiatives.

Bhasin was voted ‘IT Man of the Year’ by Dataquest in 2009. He and Genpact have received many awards for their pioneering efforts in building the industry and for Genpact’s leadership position in India, China and Eastern Europe.
