In 2000, Deep Kalra, the pioneer of online travel in India, founded MakeMyTrip. Under his stewardship, MakeMyTrip has become the largest online travel company, as well as the largest e-commerce business in India. The company has been recognized as one of India’s best travel portals.
In August 2010, MakeMyTrip had a very effective IPO on NASDAQ. In July 2016, it was positioned as the No. 1 web based business organisation to work for by the Great Place to Work Institute, India.
Kalra is a member the Executive Council of NASSCOM and chairs the NASSCOM Internet Working Group. He is also a Charter Member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and serves on the Board of TiE, New Delhi.
Prior to his entrepreneurial venture with MakeMyTrip, Kalra had corporate stints with GE Capital, AMF Bowling Inc. and ABN AMRO Bank.
Deep Kalra is a member of CII’s Tourism sub-committee and is a regular speaker at internet and travel conferences across the globe.
Deep Kalra currently serves as an independent Director for IndiaMart.com, a leading B2B website. He is also a founding member of ‘I am Gurgaon’, an NGO focused on improving the quality of life in Gurgaon.
Kalra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St Stephen’s College, Delhi and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
