An Alumnus of IIT, Mumbai and IIM – Ahmedabad, Dr. Ranade is the Chief Economist at the Aditya Birla Group, a multinational conglomerate. His professional career has spanned academic and corporate assignments, in India as well as in the US, and he has also been the Chief Economist at ABN Amro Bank.
He is a member of the Board of India Today Economists, chairs the CII West Zone Sub Committee on Economic Affairs and the Research Advisory Panel of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. He has also been a Chairman of IITBAA. Dr Ranade held a faculty position at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, the Indian Council of Research on International Economic Relations and JNU, New Delhi.
He was also a faculty of Brown University, Holy Cross College, and Wesleyan University in the US. Currently, as the Group Chief Economist of India’s A V Birla Group, he heads its economic research arm focusing on macro-economic, policy and sectoral issues. Dr Ranade has been a consultant to the World Bank, the Tobacco Institute of India, and the UN ESCAP. He is a columnist for the Financial Express and has written several articles in Business Standard.
