PVR Cinemas began as a joint venture between Priya Exhibitors Private Limited and Village Roadshow Limited and originated as Priya Cinema in South Delhi, bought by Ajay Bijli’s father in 1978. In 1988 Bijli took over the running of the cinema hall, which was revamped in 1990 and its success led to the founding of PVR Cinemas. PVR now has an extremely strong presence with 597 screens in 128 locations across 51 Indian cities.
Ajayj Bijli was awarded the ‘E&Y Entrepreneurial Award’ for Business Transformation by Ernst and Young in 2013.
