In this video, Making Sense Of: Misinformation in the Digital World, Roy Sheppard interviews Professor Philip Howard about the extraordinary level of misinformation that is prevalent in today’s online world. They discuss what is currently being done by various nations and corporations to promote this misinformation, and what can be done to identify and stem the flow of harmful content online.

Philip Howard is Professor of Internet Studies at Oxford University, and Director of the Oxford Internet Institute, who were the first organisation to discover “fake news” as a phenomenon during the 2016 Brexit referendum and US Presidential election. His knowledge has been sought by the US Senate, the European Commission and UK Government on misinformation trends. His latest book is Lie Machines: How to Save Democracy from Troll Armies, Deceitful Robots, Junk News Operations, and Political Operatives.
